Strawberry Festival at Midi

Beaulieu means in Englisch: Beautiful place. And the 1000 soul community on the western edge of the French Massif Central, between woods and meadows on the banks of the Dordogne, is rightly called Beaulieu.
Picturesque alleys with Renaissance houses characterise the town, but also defiant churches, such as the Abbey Church of St. Pierre, which is one of the most impressive sacred buildings in the southwest of France.

Strawberry festival in Beaulieu: the longest strawberry cake in the world

Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is also the city of strawberries. 400 tons of the red fruit are harvested here every year.
Many of the fruits end up in the bakeries of the local pastry shops, which - always on the second Sunday in May - bake gigantic strawberry cakes from them.
